Most side effects of GLP-1 medicines are mild and affect the stomach. Some are rare but serious. Knowing the difference helps you act early.

Common side effects

  • Nausea, especially at the start or after a dose increase
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Vomiting
  • Reduced appetite
  • Stomach discomfort or bloating

Call your doctor if you have

  • Vomiting or diarrhea that does not stop, or signs of dehydration
  • Pain in the upper right belly, fever or yellow skin or eyes (possible gallbladder problems)
  • A lump or swelling in the neck, trouble swallowing or hoarseness
  • Changes in vision if you have diabetes

Get emergency care for

  • Severe stomach pain that may spread to your back (possible pancreatitis)
  • Signs of a serious allergic reaction: swelling of the face or throat, trouble breathing
