Ubrogepant is a prescription medicine. It is not right for everyone: use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (some antifungals and antibiotics); severe liver or kidney impairment. Tell your doctor about every condition you have and every medicine and supplement you take.
Common side effects are described below. Stop and seek care for any severe or unexpected reaction. This page is education, not medical advice; your doctor and pharmacist give the instructions for your treatment.
How to get started

Ubrogepant, explained by our clinical team
What it is
Ubrogepant belongs to the newest class of migraine medicines. It blocks CGRP, a protein that drives migraine pain, without narrowing blood vessels — so it can be used by people who cannot take triptans because of heart risk.
It has no known risk of medication-overuse headache and causes little drowsiness, making it practical for workdays.
FDA-approved uses
- Acute migraine with or without aura in adults
Our doctors prescribe for approved uses. Any other use is a decision made only by your doctor, for you, after evaluation.
How it is taken
One tablet at onset, with or without food; a second dose may be taken at least two hours later, up to 200 mg in 24 hours.
What to expect
Pain freedom or relief within two hours for many people; nausea and sleepiness are the most common side effects and generally mild.
Who should not take it
- Use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (some antifungals and antibiotics)
- Severe liver or kidney impairment
Questions we hear
Gepant or triptan?
Triptans are cheaper and well proven; gepants avoid vascular effects and overuse headache. Your doctor weighs both.
Does it prevent migraine?
Ubrelvy® treats attacks; a related gepant, rimegepant, is also approved for prevention.
Can I combine it with a triptan?
Yes, when needed, under medical direction.
