Vardenafil, explained by our clinical team
What it is
Vardenafil is closely related to sildenafil with a similar duration of action, available as a swallowed tablet and as an orally disintegrating tablet that melts on the tongue.
Some men who get side effects from one PDE5 inhibitor do better on another; vardenafil is a useful alternative.
FDA-approved uses
- Erectile dysfunction
Our doctors prescribe for approved uses. Any other use is a decision made only by your doctor, for you, after evaluation.
How it is taken
One tablet about 60 minutes before sexual activity, once a day at most. The dissolving tablet is placed on the tongue without water.
What to expect
Similar effect and side-effect pattern to sildenafil: headache, flushing, stuffy nose, indigestion.
Who should not take it
- Anyone taking nitrates or riociguat
- Unstable heart disease
- Known QT prolongation or medicines that prolong QT
Questions we hear
Why choose vardenafil?
Individual response varies; some men prefer its onset or tolerate it better.
Is the dissolving tablet stronger?
No, but it is absorbed differently and is not interchangeable milligram-for-milligram with the film tablet.
Can I split tablets?
Only the film-coated tablet, and only if your doctor says so.
